A Senior Companion volunteer is a "friend". They provide companionship by talking, listening, reading or playing games with an elder person. They foster contact with family and friends and assist with reality and general awareness. They can also provide grief support or accompany the elderly person to the doctors, etc. to provide emotional support. They can also encourage physical activity through exercise or recreational activities. A volunteer can help with meal planning, filling out forms, letter writing, reading mail and helping to plan a budget. A volunteer could also provide information on nutrition, financial planning and other health information based on need. If they choose, a volunteer could run errands, do grocery shopping or light daily chores. If appropriate, they could take their "friend" on errands or shopping also. Senior Companion Volunteers must be 60+ themselves and in good health.
