Brockton Day Nursery
The mission of Brockton Day Nursery is to serve the needs of children and families by providing comprehensive child care and support services.
Description:
Brockton Day Nursery (BDN) is a non-profit child care center providing full-time services for children from one month of age to fourteen years. BDN has sixteen classrooms staffed by competent, nurturing and well-trained staff members. Services are provided to 54 infants & toddlers, 126 preschoolers, & 65 school-aged children. BDN is open year-round, Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Services to children and families include developmentally appropriate activities and materials, transportation, meals (including breakfast, lunch & snacks,) diapers, air-conditioned building, five outdoor fenced-in playgrounds. BDN is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care(EEC) and is pursuing accreditation through the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children)
History:
BDN had its origin in the charitable work of the "1894 Club," a group of young women guided by Leila Delano Richmond and devoted to the needs of children whose mothers were forced to work outside the home for the support of their families. In 1900 a number of ladies met for the purpose of organizing the Brockton Day Nursery as it is known today. BDN was incorporated in 1907 and has been housed in various locations since its inception, often as a result of the generous gifts of benefactors. Today, BDN is located at 243 Crescent Street (Route 27) in Brockton. As the community demand for quality child care services changes, BDN continues to adapt its programs to match these needs. BDN continues in the proud tradition of the "1894 Club" in providing quality services to children from all economic strata, races, creeds, and beliefs.
