"Friends of Irondequoit Bay" is a member based environmental organization whose mission is to help preserve and protect the delicate ecological integrity of Irondequoit Bay wetlands through preservation, education and advocacy .

What We Do:

Preserve our waterways by sponsoring bi-annual bay shoreline clean up campaigns

Educate the public about ecological issues impacting Irondequoit Bay and increase awareness of the bay and its function as a regional resource.

Advocate for protective legislation at the local and national level for cleaner waterways.

Our future success is totally dependent on your contribution and volunteerism.

History:
During their frequent hikes in the parks, surrounding the Irondequoit Bay wetland area, founders Harlan Brody and Greg Garland would see bottles, old tires, construction material and other trash that people had left behind. The bay area was beginning to look like a landfill! Although, they would pick up this refuse and dispose of it properly, Harlan Brody and Greg realized that it was a losing battle and that they could not continue to clean up this natural resource by themselves. They needed the help of other nature enthusiasts and citizens interested in making a difference. The idea of creating “Friends of Irondequoit Bay,” dedicated to the protection of one of the most important watersheds in the world was born.
