History:
In 1971, a group of Monroe County high school students had a vision of a "center" for youth. With support from their school and the community, they rented space where teens could come and talk to other teens about issues that affected their lives. They created a founding philosophy stating that youth are capable of making the right decisions that affect their lives when provided with accurate information, support and encouragement and the first executive director of The Center for Youth was 18 years old.
