MISSION: The Legal Aid Society of Rochester is a not-for-profit organization that provides direct civil legal services, including lay advocacy and related human services, to adults and children. We ensure that those who seek justice have an opportunity to receive a fair and full hearing. We obtain legal solutions that have a beneficial impact on our clients and the community.
VISION: The Legal Aid Society of Rochester believes in the guarantees of due process and equal protection as promised in our State and Federal constitutions.
To ensure that these rights have real meaning, we will strive to provide a highly qualified and zealous advocate to anyone who cannot otherwise obtain representation in civil legal matters.
We will create an environment in our community that values access to legal counsel, so every person is treated with dignity, equality and fairness.

Description:
LAS provides direct legal representation to qualified people who have legal issues and who reside in Monroe County, and in some programs, a surrounding county. There are two divisions, the Civil Division and the Juvenile Justice Division. The Civil Division provides direct civil legal representation and counseling in three general areas of the law: Family Law, Housing,and Immigration. The Juvenile Justice Division has two areas of law: Attorney for the Child and Youth Advocacy .

History:
The Legal Aid Society of Rochester, NY Inc. (LAS) traces its origin to Susan B. Anthony and the Women's Educational and Industrial Union of the late 19th century. It was formerly incorporated in 1921 and has been providing high quality legal services to low and moderate income residents of the Monroe County and the surrounding area since its incorporation.

 ARRIVING FROM WEST OF ROCHESTER: Take Route 90 (NYS Thruway) and Exit at Leroy, NY, Exit 47 and take route 490 east to downtown Rochester. Follow the signs to the Inner Loop and exit at Plymouth Avenue. At the second light, make a right onto Main Street and continue to the second light, the corner of Main and Exchange Street, the Legal Aid Society is the white building on the corner of Main and Exchange. ARRIVING FROM EAST OF ROCHESTER: Take Route 90 (NYS Thruway) and Exit at Victor, NY, Exit 45 and take route 490 west to downtown Rochester exiting at Broad&Plymouth. At the second light, make a right onto Main Street and continue to the second light, the corner of Main and Exchange Street, the Legal Aid Society is the white building on the corner of Main and Exchange.
