Our mission is to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and to increase the availability of all organs for transplantation. Together, we are Making Lives Better.

Description:
The National Kidney Foundation Serving Upstate New York is a volunteer driven organization. Volunteers are united in a singular vital mission to eradicate kidney and urinary tract diseases while providing help and hope to those in need.

Founded locally in 1982, the NKF continues to serve the nine counties of Upstate New York. In total, more than 13 dialysis clinics and 1,500 patients annually depend on the NKF of UNY for information, services and support. The local affiliate became a Division of the National Kidney Foundation, Inc. on July 1, 2008.

There are 20 million people in the US with Chronic Kidney Disease, and 20 million more at risk. The NKF has responded with increased patient services, educational programs, grants for local research, and community outreach initiatives. Additionally, the NKF is committed to teaching the public about the importance of organ and tissue donation.

History:
In the early 1950's, parents of children dying from childhood nephrosis gathered in America's communities to solve a crisis. Over the years, they became the National Kidney Foundation. Today, we actively enlist the help of patients and family members in small and large communities to help us battle kidney and urologic diseases.
