Volunteer Services is a team member for patient and visitor care assisting physicians, clinical staff, and all others in achieving the hospital’s mission to improve the health of the people and communities we serve.

Description:
Rochester General Hospital is a 526-bed acute care hospital, and a major teaching and referral center, that provides multiple levels of care to Rochester and the Finger Lakes region. We are an 8-time Top 100 Cardiac hospital and most recently re-designated as a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence in company with other health systems like Duke University, the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, and Johns Hopkins.

History:
In 1847, several leading citizens in the community obtained a charter to establish Rochester City Hospital for the care of the sick. In 1864, the Hospital opened its doors under the auspices of the Rochester Female Charitable Society, located on Main Street. By 1911, the Hospital included 15 buildings and had changed its name to Rochester General Hospital. The Northside Division was established on Portland Avenue in 1956, and ten years later the two divisions were consolidated at that location
