Greece Ecumenical Clothing Closet

The purpose of the Greece Ecumenical Clothing Closet is to acquire, warehouse and distribute donated clothing to benefit needy residents living within the Town of Greece, as well as those living north of Ridge Road West and west of the Genesee River, including Charlotte, which is part of the City of Rochester.

Description:
The Greece Ecumenical Clothing Closet provides gently used clothing for people of all ages. It is staffed entirely by volunteers and governed by an Executive Committee. Clients come to the site to select clothing. There is no charge for the clothing. A special section displays clothing suitable for people returning to the workforce. Clients are required to live in the area served and may come once a month. Volunteers receive, sort and display clothing. Volunteers may work as infrequently as one day per month or as often as several days per week, depending on their interest. Volunteer shifts are two hours in length, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday-Saturday. The Clothing Closet is closed on holidays. Volunteers are always needed.

History:
Originally known at Gramma Janes' Clothing Closet, it was housed in Greece Baptist Church. In 1991, area churches raised money for an addition to the Greece Human Services Building which housed the Clothing Closet and the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf. The space was enlarged in 2001 and clothes are now displayed in a 1200 sq. ft. room. Gently used clothes are donated by the community.
