SCORE is a volunteer service organization sponsored by the Small Business Administration. SCORE members counsel present and prospective business owners in need of expert advice.

Description:
SCORE services are professional, targeted to the needs of small businesses, confidential and objective.

SCORE counselors help develop business plans, consider the strength and weakness of business proposals, evaluate promotional and advertising ideas, and generally provide an experienced, objective perspective that is hard to find. SCORE counseling is available in four formats - one on one counseling, E-mail counseling, telephone counseling, and SMART Team counseling for more complex issues.
SCORE also provides low-cost workshops for individuals starting a business as well as experienced owners who need to reinvent or re energize their established businesses.
SCORE volunteers are either retired or active local business owners or managers,who wish to assist others become successful small business owners.

We need volunteers to expand our counseling service to meet the expanding needs of the fast growing small business community in Rochester and the surrounding communities.

After an orientation session and co-counseling sessions with current SCORE members, the new member will be helping individuals with small business problems. The time involved is approximately five to ten hours a month. If there is interest, the new member may also become involved in workshops that SCORE presents for small business owners. Travel and parking expenses are reimbursed. The volunteer will be a member of the Rochester SCORE chapter and is invited to attend the chapter's monthly luncheon meetings at Oak Hill Country Club the second Friday of each month. Ongoing training of members keep their skills up to date.

History:
SCORE has been in operation for over 40 years. Over 12,000 SCORE members provide services nationwide.

The Rochester chapter presently has 60 members. Last year the Rochester Chapter conducted over 800 counseling sessions. Over 800 individuals attended our workshops. SCORE members donate their time and expertise because they have enjoyed successful careers in business and want to return something to their communities.
