A Board Member is responsible for ensuring the provision of the human, fiscal and community resources and for providing the expertise and guidance required to conduct the organization’s affairs. The Literacy Volunteer Board is a policy making Board and is a significant component in the daily operations of the organization. Qualifications:
- A strong concern for the illiterate and those with limited English proficiency.
- Leadership within a business or community-based organization or experience pertinent to adult education.
- A desire to represent the residents of Wayne County.
Duties: - Make a serious, long-term commitment to the cause of literacy (a typical term of office is 3 years).
- Understand the goals, policies and programs of the organization.
- Attend 2/3 of Board meetings (Board meetings are typically every other month for two hours).
- Participate actively on one or more of the Board’s Committees.
We are especially seeking... Experience in: Fund-Raising, Event-planning, Law, Accounting, Business. Bi-lingual skills, especially Spanish. Representatives from Ontario, Williamson, Walworth, Rose, Huron, Butler.
