The mission of Fill the Gap, Inc. is to improve the lives of people facing a possible cancer diagnosis by providing emotional and informational support from first awareness of a problem through entry into treatment.

Description:
Fill the Gap is a telephone helpline staffed by caring and compassionate trained survivor volunteers. As a collaborative partnership with Seacoast New Hampshire and Maine hospitals, we provide newly diagnosed or potential cancer patients, family and friends with a compassionate listener who will be able to provide referrals to the appropriate support services available in the caller's community.
We are looking for breast cancer survivors from our seacoast area interested in giving back to their communities. As a Fill the Gap telephone volunteer peer counselor, you will have an opportunity to contribute something of value to anyone facing a potential or actual breast cancer diagnosis. You will listen to caller's concern and help them identify their emotional and informational needs. In addition to offering peer support, you will refer callers to a number of appropriate resources that will address their needs. This can be done from the comfort of your own home, using your own phone that connects to our toll free number and at a time that you chose.

History:
Fill the Gap's 24/7 telephone helpline, staffed by trained volunteer peer counselors, came online June 25, 2007. Our NH non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization was formed in July 2006 with funding from our partnering seacoast NH and ME hospitals, fund raising events and individual donations.
