Cats 1st is low-kill organization specializing in feral (undomesticated) and abandoned cats and kittens. We respond to calls from the public regarding abandoned cats, pregnant or injured cats and large feral colonies. Cats 1st seeks to reduce unwanted cats through education and low cost spay/neuter services, fostering adoptable cats and kittens until permanent placement and also humane management of large feral cat colonies. Cats 1st is committed to establishing a shelter in southeastern Rockingham County.

Description:
Cats 1st currently is a network of very dedicated people willing to respond quickly to trap abandoned cats, rescue kittens and/or sick and injured cats and deal tactfully with the public. We regularly encounter cats in desperate situations and volunteer trappers need training. Cats 1st also generates a tremendous amount of paperwork and volunteers are needed to enter data about individual cats, keep records of adoptions and applications, feed cats at managed and established colonies, in-home fostering of cats and kittens until adoption and fund-raising to support cats in our care and for our future shelter.

History:
Cats 1st is very new! We were established on March 17, 2008 and are currently poised to begin our first fund-raising effort. Even with limited funds, we have responded successfully to 2 stray females, 3 abandoned kittens and one terminally ill stray.
