Agency Details:

Bridging The Gaps

Our mission is to promote a healthier Rochester community by reducing substance abuse and underage drinking by our youth through increased collaborative prevention, intervention and treatment efforts.

Description:
The Bridging the Gaps Coalition brings together community members who are vested in reducing youth substance use and changing the community culture. We have two main goals as a coalition.

Our first goal is to establish and strengthen collaboration among diverse community partners to support coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth. We do this by creating a dialogue that enganges members in bridging the gaps for substance abuse prevention and intervention.

Our second goal is to reduce substance abuse, over time, by addressing factors that increase the risk of substance abuse and promote the factors that minimize risk of substance abuse. To reach this goal we are working with the community to establish a youth coalition and offer substance free community programming. Additionally we educate youth, parents and the community on the issue of substance abuse and risk factors for substance use.

We are a new organization, looking for community members who are invested in making a difference.

History:
In Dec 2005 a group of commited community members came together to discuss the issue of drug and alcohol use of youth. Out of that meeting they established The Rochester Community Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Prevention. As a coalition they worked to educate the community by planning a community summit and to offer alternative programming for youth. Then in 2008, they received a grant to engange in a multilevel approach to community change in the areas of alocohol, tobacco and drug use of youth.
