Agency Details:
Dover Children's Home
It is the mission of the Dover Children’s Home to provide adolescents with the highest quality of residential treatment services possible, with the goal of strengthening their relationships with their families and preparing them for productive, independent lives. Furthermore, it is also the mission of the agency to design, implement, and disseminate treatment approaches that define new standards of excellence in the field and, through this leadership, to improve the quality of care available to children meeting life’s challenges.
Description:
The Dover Children’s Home is a residential treatment facility for twelve abused, neglected, troubled, and disadvantaged youth, ages twelve to eighteen. We also offer a two bed independent living program, the PILOT House, where older youth (ages 16-22) can practice living independently in a safe, monitored apartment setting rich with budgeting, employment, academic, and time management opportunities. The Dover Children’s Home is the second oldest group home in NH, providing services to many high-risk children from many low-income communities throughout the State.
History:
On May 10, 1893, a group of local benefactors formed a charitable corporation to be called the Dover Children’s Home. The purpose was to provide for the reception, care, and education of destitute children at a home to be located in Dover, New Hampshire. Originally opened on Atkinson Street, the current building on Locust Street was erected in 1897. The Home has provided care and treatment services to thousands of children over the years.
