Raymond Coalition For Youth
Raymond Coalition for Youth empowers the community to promote positive youth development and strengthen community assets by coordinating services and opportunities through prevention initiatives, including suicide, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
Description:
RCFY provides a vehicle for professionals, parents and youth to work as partners on behalf of youth and family needs in the community of Raymond. Public (police, recreation, schools, UNH) and private (mental health, education and social service agencies, local businesses, and other groups, including youth and parents meet monthly and work on a variety of efforts to enhance and expand positive youth development and family strengthening activities in Raymond. Currently we are co sponsoring a monthly parenting series with Families First to address topics that directly relate to parenting children and teens today. These are held on Wednesdays in the community building of the Raymond Baptist church at 145 RT 27 in Raymond. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for a fun, informational evening. Free dinner and babysitting is available. Please call 603 422 8208 x 602 for more details. Our new afterschool program for grades 5 - 8 is open and will run adjacent to the current school calendar. We hope to have volunteers come in and offer a variety of activities for the youth, be it a one time event, weekly, or monthly. This will be enrichment for the program and children and give them a variety of learning experiences. Anyone who would like to contribute is encouraged to do so. You can contact Pat Arsenault at paresenault@rcfy.org We have youth groups that are running in both the middle school and high school. Our Youth Action at the high school is very energetic and involved in many awareness and educational activities, campaigns and events. They run community service projects as well as being advocates for a safe drug and alcohol free way of life. They have a great voice for our community and many are recognizing all of the work they do.
History:
Raymond completed the Teenage Assessment Project with UNH Cooperative Extension in 2002, involving assessment of youth risk and protective factors and related community education events. Following this project, the community decided to continue to organize and address areas of concern. This resulted in the formation of RCFY, Inc. in 2004 as a tax exempt, 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit organization that is managed by a volunteer board of directors promoting youth and adult partnership. In the spring of 2007 we encouraged the school district to participate in the YRBS survey. This will provide us with updated information to know what areas need to be targeted next. In 2009 we also conducted the YRBS in our middle school. All of this data is very important in moving forward to target areas of need that our youth have.
