Lamprey River Watershed Association
The Lamprey River Watershed Association (LRWA) was formed in 1983 to promote the restoration, conservation, wise development and use of the natural resources of the Lamprey River Watershed. LRWA promotes the protection of water quality and quantity, environmental education, and solid science and research.
Description:
The Lamprey River Watershed Association is small and local. Volunteers are very important and are what makes LRWA successful. Volunteers conduct water quality sampling on a bi-weekly basis from May through September. Volunteers help to plan and organize environmental awareness campaigns and fundraising events. The Lamprey River Watershed is made up of the towns of Northwood, Deerfield, Candia, Nottingham, Barrington, Raymond, Epping, Lee, Durham, Newmarket and Newfields.
History:
Formed in 1983 for the protection of the river, the LRWA has had many successes. A major accomplishment was the selection of the lower portion of the Lamprey River into the National Park Service's "Wild and Scenic River" program. LRWA was instrumental in getting funding for the Epping waste water treatment facility leading to a significant improvement in water quality. The Lamprey River Watershed is one of two rivers in the state of NH currently developing a Water Management Plan to guide use of the water during times of low flow.
