Great Bay Discovery Center was established to promote education, research and stewardship throughout the Great Bay Estuary, through programs of public education, land stewardship and scientific understanding.
Description:
The Center at Sandy Point is used mainly for educational purposes. Each fall and spring hundreds of NH school children take part in environment programs. During the summer season, additional programs are offered for children and adults. There is also a kayak program for adults throughout the summer. The Center houses exhibitions, including a touch tank, and the grounds feature a board walk, woodland trail, water access and also a bird watching platform.
History:
This environmental Center opened 13 years ago and is funded by NH Fish and Game, NOAA and NERR. It is one of 26 National Estuarine Research Reserves in the country.
