History:
SASS has been serving survivors of sexual violence since 1979 when we became a non-profit agency serving rape victims in Rockingham, Strafford, and southern York counties. The program began with a 24-hour rape crisis hotline and one-part time staff who trained volunteer advocates to accompany victims at hospital emergency rooms, police investigations, and court appointments. To this day, these services remain central to our agency. Today, the agency's services are provided by 6 full-time staff, 7 part-time staff and over 80 dedicated volunteers. Our services have greatly expanded over the years in making a difference in the lives of survivors of sexual violence.

Overall Experience
Great
 |
I volunteer as an after hours hotline advocate on nights and weekends three times a month from home. It has been great! It is a good balance between putting the skills I've learned in school to use and all the new skills I have learned though SASS training to offer support to individuals who call the hotline. Everyone I volunteer with are very nice and the employees of the agency are supportive and ready to answer any questions I have. It has been an extremely rewarding experience to be able to help others in the way that I do. It is an experience I will never forget. posted on December 13, 2006 |
