Rochester School Department

Our mission is to impact student achievement and academic success by expanding and building extended school programs (non-traditional programming) with the help of volunteers. Our goals are attained through enrichment programs, sharing resources, business and community partnerships and parent involvement.

Description:
The Office of Extended School Programs and Volunteers is committed to increasing parent involvement, community connections and business partnerships in Rochester's Schools and for the Title I schools in particular. Partnerships may include rotary club projects, adopt-a-school, work-release volunteer programs, etc. Volunteers contribute their skills in classrooms and in before-school, lunch-time and after-school enrichment programs. Some of the opportunities to volunteer include: mentoring, reading & literacy activities, recess games, arts & crafts, baking, computer clubs, chess club, homework helpers, etc. If you have a unique skill or talent to share, please contact us. We are particularly interested in developing creative literacy projects to support the district's 90% reading goal.

History:
The Rochester School Department and Title I recognized the value of partnering with parents, local businesses and community organizations to benefit our students and thus the Office of Extended School Programs and Volunteers was born. This unique initiative was launched in 1999 and continues to evolve with changes in the schools' needs and available resources.
