Community Wellness Coalition
Our vision: Whole person, whole family, whole community well-being in the KEYS Region (Kittery, Eliot, York, S. Berwick, Maine) Our mission: "Connecting the people and resources of Southern York County"
Description:
The Community Wellness Coalition (CWC) convenes and connects citizens and community leaders to work on quality of life issues in Southern York County (Kittery, Eliot, York, S. Berwick) in all the dimensions of wellness represented in our Wellness Model. Our philosophy is to help community members and organizations identify and build upon assets to address community needs.
Our Wellness Model offers a comprehensive and integrative framework for designing strength-based community projects. We work to support well-being for individuals, families and communities in all the dimensions of well-being: physical; emotional/mental; spiritual/ethical; intellectual/educational; social/civic; cultural; occupational; material/financial; environmental.
History:
The CWC was founded in 1996-97 by a group of organizations that wanted a more "user-friendly" service map in our area. The CWC organized a Future Search Conference in October 1997, which gave us our vision and many goals and objectives to work on. In 2004, we started a renewal of that planning process, with Our Future by Design: Working Better Together. We had our first tiny office at York Hospital, and then moved, in October 1998, to an office in York Village. In September 2000 we moved to Landmark Hill, in order to start a co-location, "one-stop shopping" resource center for our region. There are now about 10 services at Landmark Hill, with dozens of programs and projects. While the CWC sometimes meets at Landmark Hill, it no longer maintains an office there.
