Hospice of York is a non-profit organization that provides free, confidential, supportive, non-medical service to individuals with any terminal illness. The staff & trained volunteers provide emotional & practical support to patients, families, & friends. Hospice believes that death is a natural process & that each individual has a right to a death with dignity & respect, consistent with his/her beliefs & values. It is essential to the Hospice mission to provide bereavement support & to educate its community about the philosophy of Hospice & its services.

Description:
We offer our unique service to the terminally ill & to the bereaved in the towns of Wells, Ogunquit, York, Kittery, Eliot, So.Berwick, Berwick, No.Berwick & Lebanon. We are always free. Hospice services are available to any one who's life expectancy is one year or less.Volunteers are assigned, in pairs, to a family with the goal of helping during the emotional journey at the end of life. Our grief support group, Living With Loss, is available to anyone who has lost a loved one (need not have been a Hospice family.)

History:
Hospice of York was created in 1979 at the request of a doctor from York Hospital. Since that time we have grown, now having our own Board of Directors, Director and Bereavement Coordinators. We exist under the Hospital's legal umbrella, using their 501C3, but raise & manage our own funds. We are a member of the Maine Hospice Council & are licensed by the State of Maine.
