Last updated on August 20, 2008

CHANCES is a community-based alternative to the formal court system for youth. Programs have flexibility to serve both pre/post-adjudicated youth in lieu of more expensive processing through state courts. Diversion concentrates on holding youth accountable for their behavior, while involving them in programs and activities to restore harm done and prevent future criminal or delinquent behavior.

Description:
CHANCES is a grant-funded program primarily dedicated to providing opportunities for youngsters who have broken the law to be responsible for their actions without becoming involved in the judicial system or further involved in the judicial system. The overall goals of the program are for the juvenile to achieve accountability and responsibility, to prevent further delinquency, and to promote community safety. We achieve this through community service opportunities, supervision, and psycho-educational programming. In addition, we provide parenting and family mediation to improve communication between parents teens as well as survival skills for boys and life skills groups for girls to support our goals.

History:
CHANCES is a grant-funded program established in 1998 to serve delinquent and at risk youth in the communities of Strafford County. Our referrals have grown 300% since its inception - our recidivism rating as of 2005 is 07%. Making our success rate 93%.
