The Cornucopia Food Pantry provides food and other support to UNH students, staff, faculty and their families. The Waysmeet Center seeks to be an open and inclusive faciltiy and program for all people, and to build bridges between peoples, groups and communities on campus and the Durham area.
Description:
The Cornucopia Food Pantry has been in operation since 1997. It is a food pantry located on campus and open year round for UNH students, staff, faculty and their families in need. The Food Pantry provides food on a weekly basis for those in need, provides holiday baskets three times a year for families in the community, and has monthly outreach meals to the Forest Park community here on campus. The Food Pantry has patrons from various cultures and countries, and has a rich diversity of folks using the pantry. The Food Pantry and Waysmeet Center also work with families and community members to link folks with transportation, gift and support resources. We also have a teddy bear program that provides teddy bears to children and families in need of emotional and joyful support.
History:
The Cornucopia Food Pantry was founded in 1996 and began operations in 1997. It was founded by the UNH Chaplains Association and the Partnership for Social Action. Three years ago, the Waysmeet Center became the operating agency and partner to oversee the pantry, working with a team of volunteers from several campus departments.
