Neighbors Helping Newborns provides necessities and comfort to premature and newborn babies at hospitals in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Description:
We help babies in crisis by:

• Making hand-made garments for hospitalized and premature babies
• Sewing bereavement items for babies that don't survive
• Packaging store-bought infant clothing into layettes for families in financial crisis



History:
Neighbors Helping Newborns is a local 501(c)3 non-profit charity based in Newton, New Hampshire. Volunteers sew and/or knit quilts, blankets, hats, sweaters, and other necessary baby items, as well as special burial layettes for babies that don't survive.

Each year, we deliver thousands of hand-made and donated items to more than 20 hospitals throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. All items are given, free of charge, to babies in crisis.

In addition to handmade items, Neighbors Helping Newborns also collects new and gently-worn newborn clothing (sized "preemie" and "0-3 mos.") that hospitals can send home with babies who lack the basic necessities. There is an urgent need for layette items like sleepers, onesies, and socks, as well as crib-size quilts, receiving blankets, and newborn cardigans and hoodies. Donations of polar fleece and baby fabric (both knit and cotton blends) are also gladly accepted.

Neighbors Helping Newborns hosts a work group meeting at The First Congregational Church of Kingston (NH) from 9 AM to noon on the fourth Wednesday of every month to teach volunteers how to sew garments specially designed for hospitalized and premature babies. (Many volunteers also work from home to complete quilts, blankets, and clothing.) Join us this month!

Even if you don't sew or knit, stop by and lend a hand with other tasks, such as sorting donations, cutting out patterns, and packaging infant clothing. You can make a difference in the lives of local families in crisis!
