We believe a major challenge will be to ensure the quality of life for aging Americans while recognizing the right of elders to make their own decisions regarding health care choices. The Rannie Webster Foundation has established an independent living and intermediate care facility to provide a continuum of care for our Residents, in carrying out the wishes of the late Rannie Webster to provide and maintain a suitable and comfortable home for such persons as who by reason of old age, accident or bodily infirmity, or through lack of means shall be unable to properly and adequately provide for their own needs. The Rannie Webster Foundation will strive to continually improve and optimize provided services, facility and grounds to meet the needs of the Webster at Rye community and the community at large. The Foundation commits to being a participant in the greater community, actively promoting intergenerational activities and providing use of Webster at Rye's facilities for area groups and community-based functions.

Description:
Webster at Rye was created as an independent retirement community and a nursing care facility in order to meet a wide range of Resident needs and to encourage the greatest degree of independence. The home's small size has made it possible to perpetuate a tradition of providing the highest quality of care in a home-like environment.

History:
Webster at Rye, also known as The Rannie Webster Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable, non-profit operating foundation. The foundation was created as the result of a bequest in the Will of the late Rannie Webster, a businesswoman who summered in Rye and owned a prosperous hat shop in New York City.

While summering in Rye, Ms. Webster suffered a disabling accident while horse back riding, and was disappointed by the lack of a healthcare facility in the Town of Rye where she could receive visits from her many Rye friends.

In her Will, Ms. Webster stipulated that: "It is my wish that a charitable corporation be established for the purpose of building and maintaining a home for the aged and invalid. It being my purpose to provide and maintain a suitable and comfortable home for such persons as whom by reason of old age, accident or bodily infirmity, or through lack of means shall be unable to properly and adequately provide for their own needs. It is my further wish that such home be established in or near Rye, New Hampshire".

The Rannie Webster Foundation was incorporated in December 1976 and the original incorporators began the lengthy process of fulfilling Rannie Webster's vision. The original incorporators, much as the Trustees of today, were made up of local residents who volunteered of their time and expertise, and included a prominent judge, a physician, a banker, a stock broker, a state legislator, and a building contractor.

In 1985 ground was broken on farmland and forest purchased at the corner of Washington Road and Blueberry Lane in Rye. N.H. The building was completed and officially opened its doors in March of 1986 under the business name of Webster at Rye.
