Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 7, 2009

Volunteers needed for taking water samples in and around Great Bay. Sampling occurs in the towns of Dover, Durham, Exeter, Newington, Newmarket, New Castle, Portsmouth. Samples are taken once a month at the low and high tide on a specific day. We plan the sampling times during daylight hours and the times of greatest high and low tides. This can be an issue for folks who work full-time. Samples are taken and the following things are sampled for; salinity, temperature, water transparency, dissolved oxygen, pH. Volunteers should be comfortable using equipment involved in sampling such as hydrometers, thermometer, secchi disks and pH meters.

Volunteers do not need any prior experience. We offer trainings several times throughout the year. Volunteers must be able to take samples from the water by going out on docks etc...
