Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 6, 2009

Imagine if you were unable to read the newspaper or recognize a friend across the room even when wearing glasses or contact lenses. This is the case for approximately 45,000 people in New Hampshire. Isolation sets in; one feels very alone. The volunteer opportunities listed below offer a sense of hope for the client and allow the volunteer flexibility as to a time commitment.
An In-Home Community Visitor is where a volunteer is matched on a one-to-one with a client in their area. Practical help is given in the areas of reading, letter writing, organizing paperwork, companionship, walks.
A Volunteer Driver is where one uses their own vehicle, and in their area of the state, accompanies a client to appointments, errands, recreational activities and to occasional support and training programs.
Clerical Assistants and Special Events Volunteers help out in an
as-needed basis.

There is a 3-hour orientation session with hands-on experience and interaction with clients. Background checks are also done. Volunteers must be able to drive themselves to service opportunities.
