Provide direct care to the animals at the NHSPCA. Our dogs, cats and small animals benefit greatly from the assistance and nurturing they receive from our volunteers. These positions entail cleaning, feeding, and socializing with the animals, as well as restocking supplies and laundry. Dog care includes taking each dog for a 10 minute walk outside. Help us continue to place animals in the community by giving your time to them while they are at the NHSPCA.
Direct animal care happens seven days a week, 365 days a year during the following set times: Monday - Sunday 8:00-10:00am and 2:00-4:00pm (except for cat care which is done by our Junior Volunteer Program; see our "Teach kids humanity towards animals" listing to see how you can participate in this program). Tuesday and Thursday there is an additional dog walking shift from 5:00-7:00pm. The following is a current list of times that we most need animal care volunteers: Small Animals: (rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters) Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday 8:00-10:00am Cat Care: Every morning 8:00-10:00am. Dog Care: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 8:00-10:00am. Every afternoon 2:00-4:00pm.
Volunteers must provide their own transportation and be 16 years of age or older. We ask that our volunteers commit to a minimum of six months of service and a minimum of four hours per month. All volunteers must register for a Volunteer Information Session in advance with the Volunteer Coordinator. These sessions are typically held on the first Thursday of the month from 6:30-8:00pm.
