Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on November 2, 2009 |
Volunteer tour guides at the New Hampshire Farm Museum are trained to lead a variety of tours for the visiting public and school children. Volunteers can choose to specialize according to their interests and all volunteers receive extensive training. History buffs will enjoy giving guided tours of the historic Jones Farmhouse and the Jones Barn. Outdoorsy types and farm animal lovers may prefer to learn how to give a farm animal and barnyard tour or a walking tour of the historic landscape at the Farm Museum in Milton. The volunteer's role is to help people understand what it was like to live on a New Hampshire farm through the centuries and/or interpret the farm landscape and farm animals to the public. Volunteers are needed one morning or afternoon per week about 3-5 hours per day to lead tours for the general public and/or school children. Tours are offered from May through October and are scheduled Wednesday through Sunday. A formal training session is held in April and May but training can be scheduled on an individual basis. No experience is necessary but volunteers interested in leading tours should enjoy speaking to small groups of people. Former teachers, camp counselors etc are perfect for this job. This is a fun and interesting position for those who love history, farms, animals and teaching and talking with people. Volunteer guides are asked to contribute one morning or afternoon per week for 3-5 hours. Volunteers will receive comprehensive training in April and May so that they can assist us in our busy summer season. Volunteer guides must be at least 16 years of age.
