Help our communities be ready for emergencies!

Here's a one-time volunteer opportunity to assist the Portsmouth Area Emergency Response Plan.
Volunteers must be 18 or older.

The United Way Volunteer Action Center (VAC) is recruiting volunteers for the Emergency Vaccination Exercise being conducted by the City of Portsmouth in partnership with Portsmouth Regional Hospital (PRH) and the State of NH.

During the exercise, actual flu shots will be made available to area residents. Currently, there are enough flu vaccinations for 2000+ individuals 18 or older who reside in Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, New Castle, or Newington.

Here are more details:

Date: Saturday, November 19, 2005

Volunteer shifts: 7am-11:30am and 11am- 3:30pm

Clinic open to the public: 8am-3pm

Location: Portsmouth Regional High School

The VAC is recruiting 50 non-clinical volunteers - approximately 30 volunteers for the first shift and 20 volunteers for the second shift.

If you would be interested in volunteering for this event, please click to register.
The deadline for registration is, Friday, November 11.

The volunteer positions are general in nature and will entail interaction with patients, clinical staff and potentially EMS personnel. Tasks that need to be filled are in the areas of Greeter/Registration (checking patients in and form distribution), Patient Support (providing direction, answering questions), Transportation/Floater (assist patients with special needs, i.e. wheelchairs etc.).

Food and refreshments will be provided to all staff and volunteers during the day. There is a high probability that some volunteers may have to be on their feet for most of a shift. Since the number of participants is unknown, it is highly desirable that potential volunteers are flexible with respect to position assignments, and if attendance is low, comfortable with the idea of not having too much to do for a period of time.
