Mission/Vision Statement:

The Pet Assistance Network of Topeka shall provide temporary shelter consisting of healthy, appropriate and compassionate living conditions, enrichment activities, and personal care, to those pets whose owners are homeless or currently out of home and who are being served by one of PANT’s partner agencies. The shelter and care provided to the pets will meet and exceed all legal requirements, such as licensing, zoning, facility standards, and animal care standards. At such time as the owner is no longer homeless or out of home, the pet will be reunited with its owner.

Description:
We are an all-volunteer, non-profit, incorporated organization receiving donations under the umbrella of The Topeka Community Foundation and their 501(c)3 status. We help the clients of our partner agencies (currently the Topeka Rescue Mission and Battered Womens Task Force)by placing their pets in licensed temporary shelter until such time as the owner is back on their feet and able to be reunited with their pet. We have no office, no equipment, no computer, etc. We do have a phone mail box and a website.

History:
We began informal meetings to explore this concept in August 2007. It has taken us a full year to become fully organized, incorporated, solicit a start-up charitable donation from Hill's, and now begin a publicity launch. Our members include representatives from: The Topeka Rescue Mission, Battered Womens Task Force, the Kansas Animal Health Department, the Humane Society of the United States, Helping Hands Humane Society, the Cat Association of Topeka, the City of Topeka Animal Control department, Hill's Pet Nutrition, Cummins & Coffman, CPA's, PA; Goodell, Stratton & Palmer, LLP, and various volunteers.
