Excursions Therapeutic Recreation Services

Excursions, Therapeutic Recreation Service (ETRS) is new and innovative organization designed to assist mentally and physically disabled children and adults in realizing their potential for growth and development through therapeutic recreational skills at the Branded B Ranch.

Excursions, was created by Debra A. Riley who has been an advocate for the challenged for over 25 years. She has worked for several agencies that provide services for mentally and physically disabled children and adults.

Description:
Excursions, Therapeutic Recreation Services is an organization governed by an Advisory Committee and serves mentally and physically disabled residents of Shawnee County. The staff of this organization have extensive experience in providing a variety of social services for children and adults as well as experience in program
development, implementation, monitoring and fiscal management.

The need for a therapeutic recreation program was identified through a survey which was conducted using mentally and physically challenged participants from residential and day programs in Shawnee County, Kansas.

ETRS, services result in major benefits for all participants involved. Because the plan is
designed to develop or improve recreational skills, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a therapeutic recreation program. As result they will become stable, productive and well-informed members of the community

Mission and Philosophy
Individuals have the ability to develop, to make choices and participate in the community as productive citizens.

It is mission of Excursions, Therapeutic Recreation Services to join with others to
create conditions under which the disabled will experience:

*presence and participation in community life

*opportunities to develop and exercise competence

*opportunities to make choices in the pursuit of personal growth

*develop and maintain good relationships with family members friends and neighbors.

Objectives

To actively work with the community at large to ensure that the mentally and physically disabled children and adults have access to uninterrupted services as long as they are needed and desired;

To provide, expand and modify agency services and programs in response to the changing needs of the community;

To promote, provide or arrange for those adaptations and accommodations necessary to ensure that the disabled can use community resources, facilities and programs effectively;

To promote the continued development of cooperative relationships between the organization and the community ; and

To evaluate the organization policies and operations to assess and promote excellence.
