PARS' mission is to enhance community wellness by providing prevention, intervention, education, counseling and referrals; and to assist in developing partnerships that empower individuals and communities to increase protective factors and reduce risk factors related to substance abuse and other unhealthy behaviors.

Description:
PARS continues to serve Shawnee County and Osage County as one of thirteen regional prevention centers in the state whose mission is to increase communities’ capacity to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors that influence alcohol, drug abuse and related problem behaviors

History:
Prevention and Recovery Services was incorporated in 1965 under the name of National Council on Alcoholism, Topeka Division. In July of 1993, the Board of Directors voted to change our name to Shawnee Regional Prevention and Recovery Services, Inc. Our new name is more descriptive of our mission for the future [shortened to Prevention and Recovery Services (PARS) for easier recognition].
