Topeka AIDS Project incorporated is a community based organization committed to working with HIV infected persons and their significant loved ones, and through education minimizing the HIV infection rate. The Topeka AIDS Project provided direct client services and networks closely with other community based agencies and service providers to assist in meeting the clients social, legal, educational, and healthcare needs. In an effort to reduce HIV infection, the Topeka AIDS Project provides the community with appropriate education services to increase understanding, reduce fears, and gain knowledge of risk reduction practices.
Description:
The Topeka AIDS Project provides direct services to individuals with HIV/AIDS through case management services designed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment guidelines of the Ryan White Program. The agency also has Health Education and Risk Reduction programs that target high risk populations in an effort to minimize and reduce the spread of HIV. Topeka AIDS Project provides community education to raise awareness and gain support in the Topeka (Shawnee County) and the surrounding 10 counties in the northeastern region of Kansas.
History:
The Topeka AIDS Project began in 1985 as a grassroots effort in order to assist individuals who were diagnosed with HIV. In 1986 the agency was incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. In 1992 the Topeka AIDS Project became a member of the United Way and has received funding for the past 11 years.
