Topeka LULAC Senior Center, Inc.
The mission of the Topeka LULAC Senior Center, Inc. is to provide affordable transportation for senior citizens and disabled individuals in order to promote their independence and mobility.
Description:
Topeka LULAC Senior Center, Inc. provides transportation which enables seniors to go to the doctor, shop for groceries/household items, errands, and recreational or field trips. Meet other seniors at the Center for games, movies, toe nail and blood pressure clinics. Each month informational speakers bring current topics to help keep the seniors abreast on subjects and/or concerns they may have. LULAC is also a meal site where meals are provided by the Meals on Wheels program. LULAC also offers greenhouse therapy since we are the only Center that has a full size greenhouse. LULAC also offers programs to everyone in the community regardless of age, such as, English and Spanish classes, translations, and advocacy. Commodities are also distributed every month to those seniors/disabled that qualify for this service. Another valued service that is provided through LULAC in collaboration with the KS. Department on Aging is the "SHICK" program. This service helps those seniors who qualify to receive their prescriptions at minimal or no cost, as well as answers any questions regarding their Medicare/Medicaid status.
