The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, advocacy, education, and service.

The American Cancer Society depends on the competence, creativity, and dedication of our volunteers to achieve our mission. We recruit volunteers to bring lifesaving messages about cancer prevention and early detection as well as to provide services to cancer patients and their families in their local communities. The strength of the American Cancer Society is YOU, the volunteer.
History:
The American Cancer Society was founded in 1913 and is now the largest voluntary health organization in the world. The American Cancer Society is selected by nine out of 10 donors and is the only nonprofit operating on a community, state, and national level.
