Description:
The Jayhawk Area Council program is a national youth program dedicated to delivering a values based program to youth.

Our programs are delivered through both tradition and non-traditional systems. Traditional Scouting includes Cub Scout ages 7-10, Boy Scouts 11-18 and Venturing ages 14-20 (coed).

History:
Scouting in Topeka started in 1911. The first troop meeting was held May 11, 1911. From 1911 to 1913 various troops had no coordinated leadership or program. In 1913 Rev. John H. Fazel was selected Scout Commissioner and made an effort to coordinate the program.

In 1928 the Topeka Council took over thirty-nine counties across northern Kansas and became the Jayhawk Area Council. These counties remained a part of the Council until December 31, 1937 when Scouting had grown to a point where the Coronado Council was formed with 32 counties. In 1944 three counties, Lyon, Coffey, Osage and a part of Greenwood became part of the Jayhawk Area Council.

In 1946 Camp Jayhawk was established in a wooded section of Jefferson County. This camp property has maintained continuous service since opening.

Currently the Jayhawk Area Council serves more than 6,200 youth in eleven counties of northeast Kansas
