The YWCA of the USA is a women's movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by the richness of many beliefs and values. One Imperative: To eliminate racism wherever it exists.
Description:
The YWCA of Topeka has seven diverse health and social service programs under its umbrella: the Early Learning Center, Kids Quest, Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Career Assistance Network, Health Sponsorships, Wellness Programs and the Battered Women Task Force. We serve children as young as two and adults of all ages.
History:
Founded in 1858, the first YWCA was a boarding house for women and girls who came to the city to look for work. Other YWCAs sprang up around the country and our Topeka organization opened in 1887. Today over 4,000 locations nationwide provide safety, shelter, child care, physical fitness programs, counseling, and social, health, educational, and job-related services to millions of women and girls and their communities annually.
