Midland Hospice Care enhances life's journey by offering care and education with respect, dignity, and hope.

Description:
Midland Hospice care recognizes dying as a normal process and believes that an individual is entitled to actively participate in this process. The hospice philosophy affirms life. It strives neither to hasten nor to postpone death, but exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care and the support of a caring community; terminally ill patients can live fully until death. Hospice strives to support the family members before a loved one's death and during the mourning period.

History:
In 1978, Hospice Inc. of Topeka was formed by St. Francis Hospital Volunteers. The First office, located at 1615 SW 8th, was opened two years later. In 1983, an agreement was made with the Shawnee County Health Agency, the name was changed to Friends of Hospice Inc., & the office moved to 824 Washburn. Purchase of the historic Chester Woodward home, located at 1272 SW Fillmore, took place in 1990. The following year, the name was changed to Midland Hospice Care, Inc. and we became Hospice Medicare Certified. In 1992, Midland Adult Day Programs started out of the Topeka office and we merged with Osage County Hospice. Two years later, we merged with Southview Hospice in Ottawa and moved the Topeka office to its current location at 200 SW Frazier Circle (the old Menninger's Children's Home). In 1999 the Sabetha office opened and we became Joint Commission Accredited. The Hospice House (NE Kansas' only free-standing residential hospice) opened in the year 2000, as did the Midland Education Center and The Grief Counseling Center. The Midland Crossroads Palliative Care Program began in 2002. The year following, our office in Lawrence was opened. And the Sabetha Office has been moved to Seneca. The Midland Respite Center (located in the Garden View of Hospice House) and "Findables" Resale Shop (by Paisano's on 10th and Gage) are Midland's most recent accomplishments.
