Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on October 27, 2009 |
Each year, Somerset County United Way partners with the Somerset County Board of Social Services, the Food Bank Network of Somerset County and 30 other non-profit organizations to provide gifts to children, teens, senior citizens and disabled adults in need. We are looking for individuals and groups to either "adopt" a child, teen, senior or disabled adult for the holidays and purchase a new gift for them or run a collection drive for new gifts, toys or winter apparel such as gloves, hats, mittens and scarfs. It is suggested that gifts cost no more than $30 and be donated unwrapped. (Wrapping paper, etc. can be donated too!) This program helps over 5,000 individuals in Somerset County have a brighter holiday season, while being able to utilize their limited resources for their family's basic needs. We take clean, gently used coats, but only NEW gifts, gloves, hats, mittens and scarfs. We also welcome handmade knitted items. This opportunity is sponsored by: Somerset County United Way

Overall Experience

felt good to volunteer to help school children go back to school with their own supplies

My son and I met and worked with very nice people who made this first sorting experience pleasant. We also felt good about what we did and would definitely do it again. posted on March 9, 2006 |
