The Arc of Southeast Iowa assists developmentally disabled children and adults in our community to realize their potential in how they live, learn, work and play.
Description:
The Arc of Southeast Iowa was formed in 1957 by a group of parents and professionals interested in the welfare of individuals with mental retardation. Since that time The Arc of Southeast Iowa has been active in providing classes, supporting programs, encouraging legislation and increasing public awareness of the needs of individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. The Arc of Southeast Iowa recently received the Chamber of Commerce "Roots Award" for 50 years of providing services to disabled children and adults and their families in our community.
History:
The Arc of Southeast Iowa serves Johnson and an 11 county surrounding area. Services include: advocacy and awareness; respite care; supported community living; supported employment; intermittent medical monitoring; parent and sibling support groups; social skills class and two summer day camps. The Arc of Southeast Iowa serves over 300 children and adults with mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, brain injury and other developmental disabilities.
