NTS Mission : To help our customers succeed financially by providing convenient, quality, and affordable transportation to employment and vocational education.

Description:
Most people that use the NTS are low income that have had problems obtaining and maintaining employment due to transportation issues. Last year, ninety percent of our new riders earned under $18,000 per year. The availability of the United Way and J.A.R.C. funding has made it possible for many of these folks to obtain employment and begin to develop a steady work history without having to worry about how they are going to get to work. Many low-income individuals in the Cedar Rapids community face transportation issues. Many have no license, car, or can’t afford the upkeep on the car they do have. Those with a limited work history often have no option but to accept a job that requires night or weekend hours. If they do find a job during the day they still need transportation to some type of treatment at night. NTS works with FST&P to bridge that gap and insure that transportation will not be a barrier to employment, training or treatment to the residents of Cedar Rapids, Marion and Hiawatha.

History:
NTS (Neighborhood Transportation Service) was founded in 1994 to provide night and weekend transportation to school, work, and life skills classes in the Cedar Rapids metro area. NTS provides rides to individuals utilizing United Way and J.A.R.C funding taking them to their jobs, vocational education or any treatment they require during hours in which the fixed route city buses are not running.

Our community has a strong history of working in partnerships. NTS has worked with FST&P for 14 years providing transportation to employment, treatment and school. Cedar Rapids is fortunate to have a multitude of service agencies working together to get people to work. I am sure all these agencies agree transportation should never be a barrier to employment. The availability of United Way and J.A.R.C. funding in the Cedar Rapids area is helping turn that belief into a reality.
