Coralville, IA – On June 21, the longest day of the year, the United Way of Johnson County will participate in a nationwide 'Day of Action' as a call-to-action for individuals to "LIVE UNITED" – to give, advocate and volunteer on issues relating to education, income or health.
According to Christine Scheetz, President and CEO of the United Way of Johnson County, the 'Day of Action' is an opportunity for community members to take action through direct service to the greater Iowa City area. "Advancing the common good involves creating opportunities for a better life for all. When individuals, organizations, governments and businesses work together, we can make a difference. Living United means being part of the change." she added.
The 'Day of Action' will begin with volunteer sign-in from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Shelter #9 in lower City Park in Iowa City. Volunteers will be matched to service projects lasting from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a brief ceremony at Noon to recognize 2008 community flood volunteers.
Volunteers must register in advance. To register as a volunteer or submit a volunteer opportunity for your organization, please visit http://www.unitedwayjc.org or call the United Way of Johnson County office at 338-7823.
