MissionUnited Way of King County strengthens our communities by enhancing the ability of people to care for one another. United Way of King County, is a local nonprofit organization that has brought help to people in our community since 1921. Working with numerous community partners, we identify issues, invest in solutions, and improve lives. The Volunteer CenterSince 1967, United Way of King County's Volunteer Center has been placing volunteers in meaningful jobs, giving nonprofit agencies the support they need, and guiding businesses on how to energize their corporate volunteer programs. At the United Way of King County, we work hand-in-hand with volunteer programs at nonprofits and other community organizations. Your generous contributions to United Way of King County makes this resource available.Individuals:If you want to volunteer, United Way of King County can: - Connect you to hundreds of qualified agencies in our database that are looking for volunteers. Search by keyword, zip code or your specific skills and interests to find the right opportunity and by creating a volunteer profile you can save your search criteria for future use.
- Provide a variety of training opportunities to enhance the knowledge of current and potential non-profit board members and staff. We also offer Project LEAD - a leadership program for people of color that provides skills for effective membership on non-profit boards and connects graduates with local community organizations.
- Help youth and their parents by offering resources and assistance in matching youth to volunteer and service-learning opportunities and encouraging adults to volunteer in meaningful ways as mentors and tutors.
Local Companies:If you want your company to get involved, United Way of King County can: - Help you determine the resources you need to run a successful volunteer program, and provide technical support to develop a corporate volunteer program.
- Provide on-site presentations for employees about board service, mentoring, and other volunteer options;
- Connect you to networking and support opportunities for corporate volunteer programs through our Corporate Volunteer Council
- Make you part of Day of Caring, our annual community mobilization of over 7,000 volunteers from companies.
Community OrganizationsIf your nonprofit organization needs support, United Way of King County can: - Help you recruit volunteers. We promote your opportunities through mailings, corporate connections, the Internet; public relations events like volunteer fairs; and the media.
- Provide technical assistance. We provide effective volunteer management and board training.
- Offer specialized services. We help to maximize your resources by convening organizations with mentor and tutor programs, working on national and local initiatives, targeting key volunteer needs, and promoting volunteerism in King County.
