Agency Details:
Innate Health Foundation
The Innate Health Foundation supports the Irritable Bowel Syndrome and food allergy/intolerance affected communities. We provide information, patient grants, and support research.
Description:
The Innate Health Foundation supports all people affected by food allergies, food intolerances, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Food Allergies and food intolerances play a significant role in the health of millions of people. While there are many organizations that focus on specific allergies, such as celiac disease (an IgA mediated allergy to certain gluten proteins found in wheat and related grains) and organizations that address life-threatening food allergies, the Innate Health Foundation supports the entire community. Food allergies and intolerances cause a wide variety of health problems. Headaches, IBS, acne, eczema, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic sinus infections and many other health problems have been linked to food allergies and intolerances.
History:
The Innate Health Foundation was conceived in 2004 as a way to improve the help available to people with IBS and other food allergy-related conditions. In late 2005, the steps necessary to legally establish the Foundation were taken. In early 2006 an independent board of directors was elected to oversee and direct the Foundation's activities and to ensure that it serves the public interest. The board approved an application to the IRS for 501(c)(3) public charity non-profit status, which (after many months) was finally approved in early 2007. Donations were pledged even before the IRS approval was received and in 2007 enough financial support had been received to enable the creation of this website and to begin planning for other activity to accomplish the Foundation's mission. The Foundation is now raising additional funds to fulfill its mission. By providing information about IBS and other food allergy-related conditions the Foundation can help people who were unaware that they might treat and resolve their health concerns. By providing grants, the foundation seeks to help those who can't otherwise afford diagnosis and treatment. And finally, by funding and conducting research, the Foundation will increase understanding of how IBS and other food allergy-related conditions can be best addressed.
