Agency Details:
Rainier Chamber Foundation
Rainier Chamber Foundation promotes economic, cultural, and physical improvements in Southeast Seattle, to encourage academics through high school scholarships and to create a sense of community among the many ethnic businesses, organizations and residents of our neighborhoods.
Description:
The Rainier Chamber Foundation operates in the same office as the Rainier Valley Chamber of Commerce and serves the most diverse area in the country, with a reported 60 languages spoken here. Our main projects are: Scholarship program given to college bound students from local high schools. We look for academic achievement and community service with an emphasis on personal improvement. Funding for this project is raised at our annual spring Auction. Community Clean ups are done a few times a year and the Chamber Foundation helps organize and announce these events so neighbors can participate. Rainier Valley Heritage Festival and Parade happens every year in August and highlights the talents and businesses in the area. Residents enjoy the Parade and then head over to the Festival for music, games, Bite of the Valley and exhibit booths. In 2008, we added the family Fun Run as the opening for the Parade, Children's fitness games, Chalk art and henna skin designs. The Foundation will do other special projects in Southeast Seattle as needed. The Rainier Valley district is from Jackson St. to the north and south to Skyway and from Lake Washington to I5.
History:
The Rainier Chamber of Commerce was established in 1923 and the Rainier Chamber Foundation began in 1980. As one of the few Chambers with a Foundation, the Chamber believes the giving back to the community is important and will allow the Rainier Valley to prosper.
