Agency Details:
Washington Blues Society
The Washington Blues Society is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting, preserving, and advancing the culture and tradition of blues music. We are affiliated with the Blues Foundation in Memphis and received the 2009 Keeping the Blues Alive Award at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
Description:
The Washington Blues Society hosts free, all-ages blues concerts at the Red Crane Restaurant in Shoreline the second Tuesday of every month, and provides opportunities for members statewide to experience live blues music. We publish a monthly Bluesletter, have a small Musicians' Relief Fund, and host an annual Summer picnic and a holiday party. We have over 600 members statewide, and also support innovative education (Pacific Northwest Blues in Schools) programs.
History:
Formed in 1989, the Washington Blues Society consists of a core group of dedicated volunteers who promote blues music for all ages. Over time, we have grown to a membership of 600 strong. This year, in our 20th anniversary, we are producing a CD honoring 20 years in Seattle's arts community, and we have received grants from the City of Seattle, and recognition from the Blues Foundation, Tacoma News Tribune, Seattle Times, Big City Rhythm and Blues Magazine, and other new media outlets (like the Blindman's Blues Forum).
