Eastside Human Services Forum
Mission: The mission of the Eastside Human Services Forum is to foster strong public and private partnerships to assure a stable network of health and human services for the benefit of all East King County residents.
Description:
As an advocate for funding to benefit people in need, EHSF brings together people, groups, and services in order to best maximize resources. The organization strives to proactively impact regional issues, and to this end, plays an active role in educating and influencing decision makers.
History:
In January and May 2001, a group of elected officials, staff and commissioners from urban and rural cities on the Eastside, representatives from school districts, health organizations, and non-profit human services agencies met. They discussed first the lack of a group representing the Eastside’s concerns and ideas about human services and subsequently a proposal that outlined a process to design the structure for an Eastside Human Services Forum. The Founding Executive Board was appointed in January, 2002 and 501(c)(3) status was obtained later that year. The Executive Board is composed of 4 local and tribal government seats, 2 school district seats, 2 hospital/health care seats, 2 corporate seats (one business and one foundation), 2 multi-service agency seats (specifically United Way and the Eastside Human Services Alliance), and 2 at-large seats. A Working Group is composed of individuals from EHSF member groups, and does most of the work of the Forum, with the help of sub-committees on specific issues.
