Agency Details:
Reach Out
To provide shelter and support services to homeless men in Federal Way to help them move toward self-sufficiency
Description:
Reach Out works in partnership to provide shelter and daily maeals to support homeless men in Federal Way as they move from the streets into more stable situations. The men are screened and supervised by the Multi-Service Center (MSC) to ensure none have a history of violent or predatory behavior. Reach Out provides a warm place to sleep; a hot dinner, cold breakfast and sack lunch; counseling and referral services. Each month a "host" organization of Federal Way shelters the men in its facility. In addition, a "support" organization provides and serves hot dinners each night. Volunteers also provide food for breakfast and sack lunches. Reach Out's partners include MSC, Valley Cities Counseling and Consultation, South Sound Dream Center as well as faith-based and civic organizations.
History:
Reach Out operates under the 501(c)3 umbrella of the Multi-Service Center. In January 2009 Reach Out opened it's doors to screened homeless men at Calvary Lutheran Church. The shelter opened and fed men every night between January 5 and March 31, 2009. The program is patterned after the shelters in Kent and Renton (A.R.I.S.E. and H.O.M.E)
