Open Arms Perinatal Services
Open Arms embraces a world that cherishes birthing women, their babies, families and communities. Our mission is to provide services which support, educate, respect, honor and empower women in need and their families throughout the childbearing year.
Description:
Open Arms Perinatal Services is a community-based nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to providing doula services to low income pregnant women and their families in King County since 1997. Doulas are women who are trained, experienced, and certified to provide caring support to women before, during, and immediately after birth. Open Arms doulas provide emotional, social and physical support; information and education on labor and delivery as well as positive parenting and attachment; and support the decision-making and self-advocacy of the women and families they serve. In our eleven year history, Open Arms has fulfilled an essential role in King County by providing community-based perinatal services to women and their families. Our client base is diverse – more than two thirds of our clients are women of color and/or immigrants or refugees, and almost half speak a first language that is not English. We are committed to providing services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate, providing bilingual and bicultural doulas when possible. All of our doulas receive training in cultural competence, communication and advocacy.
